Police Nab 28 Foreign Nationals For Alleged Fraud

Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - The National Police team have raided and arrested 28 foreign nationals, comprising 18 of Chinese and 10 of Taiwan as well as three of Balinese, for allegedly committing fraud over phone.

The 31 people had allegedly committed fraud over phone by targeting Taiwanese and Chinese citizens, Antara learned here on Saturday.

According to Wayan Astawa, chief of Mumbul village, the villa rented by the Chinese and Taiwanese citizens was always quiet and locked from inside.

"We had collected information about immigrant residents several times, but the villa was always empty and padlocked," Astawa explained.

Two of the foreign nationals were seriously injured in the foot and head during the raid.

But the two foreigners had received medical treatment from local officials.

In the meantime, a number of members of police and Pecalang (Balinese tradition safeguards) suspected the people of cross-country fraud crime by targeting Chinese-Taiwan residents.

Apart from that, a joint team of police officers also arrested 27 Chinese nationals for their alleged role in an international cyber-crime syndicate in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, on Saturday. (WDY)
